Massage Therapy
Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.
Prenatal Massage Therapy
Prenatal massage therapy is a specialized form of massage designed to address the unique needs and challenges that come with pregnancy. It focuses on alleviating discomfort and promoting well-being for expectant mothers.
Key Features:
Safe Techniques: The massage therapist uses gentle, modified techniques to ensure the safety and comfort of both the mother and the unborn baby. Certain positions and techniques are adjusted to accommodate a growing belly and changes in the body.
Benefits:
Pain Relief: Helps alleviate common pregnancy-related discomforts such as back pain, hip pain, and sciatica.
Reduced Swelling: Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, which can help reduce swelling in the legs and feet.
Stress Reduction: Promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety, which can contribute to better overall mental and emotional well-being.
Improved Sleep: Can help improve sleep patterns and reduce insomnia associated with pregnancy.
Enhanced Circulation: Supports better blood flow, which can be beneficial for both the mother and the developing baby.
Comfort Measures: Therapists often use pillows or cushions to help the mother lie comfortably on her side, which is generally considered the safest position during pregnancy. Some therapists use a specially designed prenatal massage table with cutouts to accommodate the belly and provide support.
Personalized Approach: The massage is tailored to the individual’s needs and preferences, with adjustments made based on the stage of pregnancy and any specific concerns or conditions.
Precautions: Therapists are trained to recognize and avoid contraindications, such as high-risk pregnancies or specific medical conditions. They take care to use techniques that are gentle and supportive throughout the treatment.
Prenatal massage therapy can be a valuable part of a comprehensive prenatal care plan, helping mothers-to-be feel more comfortable and supported as they prepare for childbirth.
Hot Stone Massage Therapy
With this treatment, a licensed massage therapist will typically use smooth black basalt rocks or river rocks that have been heated to a uniform temperature in a water bath. Basalt stones are very rich in iron, which makes them particularly great at retaining heat and are even believed to help improve the flow of energy in your body.
The therapist will then either place the hot stones on specific points along the body to create soothing pressure or use them to actually massage muscles with steady pressure.
Foot Reflexology
Foot reflexology is a focused pressure technique usually directed at the feet or hands. It is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body which correspond to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the body.
Foot reflexology is a therapeutic approach that treats specific areas of the body indirectly through use of pressure point techniques on the feet.
Infant Massage Therapy
Infant massage therapy involves the gentle and nurturing practice of massaging a baby’s body. This technique is designed to support the physical and emotional development of infants, enhancing their overall well-being. Here’s a detailed description of infant massage therapy:
Technique: The massage involves using gentle strokes and pressure on an infant’s skin. It often includes techniques like stroking, kneading, and tapping, typically performed with the use of a mild, hypoallergenic oil or lotion to make the process smooth and comfortable for the baby.
Benefits:
Physical: It can improve circulation, aid in digestion, and relieve symptoms of colic or gas. It may also promote better sleep patterns and support muscle development and coordination.
Emotional: Infant massage helps strengthen the bond between the caregiver and the baby. It promotes relaxation and can help reduce stress for both the baby and the caregiver.
Neurological: The sensory stimulation provided by massage may enhance brain development and contribute to better cognitive and motor skills.
Safety: It's important to use appropriate techniques and apply gentle pressure to avoid discomfort or harm. Infant massage should be performed in a calm and quiet environment to ensure the baby is relaxed and receptive.
Training: While basic infant massage techniques can be learned by parents or caregivers, professional infant massage therapists often receive specialized training to address various developmental and health concerns.
Frequency and Duration: Sessions can vary but typically last between 10 to 20 minutes. Massage can be done daily or a few times a week, depending on the baby’s needs and preferences.
Overall, infant massage therapy is a soothing practice that fosters a deeper connection between the caregiver and the baby, while offering multiple physical and emotional benefits.
Acupuncture
A highly valued method using the painless application of ultra-fine sterile, disposable needles to target particular points in the body with the aim of correcting the flow of energy, bringing about a change in functions of the body, mind, and spirit. Without knowing all the science, Acupuncture can regulate blood pressure, hormones, lymphatic and central nervous systems.
Cupping By Acupuncturist
Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction may facilitate healing with blood flow.
Shockwave Massage Therapy
Shockwave Massage Therapy involves the combination of massage therapy techniques with shockwave therapy applications.
Shockwave Therapy involves the application of a high-energy acoustic pulse transmitted into the tissue of the affected area. This will increase the metabolic activity around the site of pain or discomfort, stimulating the reabsorption of irritative calcium deposits and scar tissue in tendons and stimulate the body's natural healing process, thus reducing pain and increasing pain free mobility.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy
A lymphatic drainage massage is a specialized therapeutic technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, which is responsible for maintaining fluid balance, immune function, and removing toxins from the body.
Purpose:
Detoxification: It helps to eliminate toxins and waste products from the body.
Edema Reduction: Effective in reducing fluid retention and swelling, particularly useful post-surgery or during pregnancy.
Immune System Support: Stimulates lymph flow, which aids in immune function and enhances the body's ability to fight infections.
Typically involves gentle, rhythmic movements with light pressure to encourage the natural flow of lymphatic fluid. Therapists use specific strokes and sequences to follow the direction of lymph flow in the body.
Benefits:
Improved Circulation: Enhances blood circulation and reduces swelling.
Relaxation: Promotes relaxation and relieves stress.
Skin Health: May improve skin tone and texture by eliminating toxins and increasing oxygen flow to tissues.
Post-Surgery Recovery: Aids in healing and reduces post-surgical swelling.
Overall, a body lymphatic drainage massage is valued for its ability to support overall wellness, improve circulation, and promote detoxification, contributing to a healthier, more balanced body.
Cupping Massage Therapy
Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction may facilitate healing with blood flow.
What should I expect during a cupping treatment?
A modern dry Cupping treatment include 2 techniques:
1. Static techniques, the plastic cups are suctioned onto the skin (painful area) using suction pumps for 15-20 min. per area with weak, medium or strong suction, without lubrication.
2. Gliding, sliding or moving silicon cup over tight fascia, spine, and joints for up to 2-30 min.
After the cups are removed, there can be some discolouration and swelling. Cupping marks can show up after first 24 hrs and last up to 2 weeks.
You may experience soreness after treatment similar to a deep tissue massage.
In some rare cases, blisters can appear during Cupping

Facial Massage Therapy
Facial massage therapy is a technique that involves the use of various manual techniques to stimulate and manipulate the muscles and tissues of the face. The therapy usually involves gentle, rhythmic movements, including kneading, tapping, and stroking.
Facial massage can be incorporated into a regular massage therapy treatment.
Benefits of Facial Massage Therapy
Improves Circulation: The gentle pressure and movements increase blood flow to the facial tissues, which can help nourish skin cells and promote a healthy, radiant complexion.
